The long-term European Union resident permit is the most favorable decision for residence in the European Union area. This procedure is partly regulated by European Union law and the benefits of obtaining this type of permit allow you to shape your life situation very freely both in Poland and in Europe. The abovementioned permit is
granted for an unlimited period, although the residence card itself must be replaced at least once every 5 years.
The basic condition to be met to apply for this permit is to reside legally and uninterruptedly in Poland for a period of a minimum of 5 years. Besides, not every basis of legal stay is fully calculated, for example, the stay on the residence permit on the study basis is calculated only in half, also the stay on the residence permit as the posted worker basis is not counted towards the required 5 years legal stay period in Poland.
Another essential condition of the application is to have obtained at least a minimum revenue for three previous tax years before the application (for example in 2022 it was 719 PLN for a single person and 600 PLN for a person in a family). In addition, when applying, you must have a valid work contract or civil agreement guaranteeing a regular income and current, valid, medical insurance.
The European Blue-Card holders must provide proof of income from the previous two tax years only.
Another condition necessary is a minimum B1 level knowledge of the Polish language, which must be certified by a state certificate. Children under sixteen, or people who have graduated from Polish school or study with the Polish language as the language of instruction are excluded from this obligation.
During the verification procedure, which by law lasts up to 6 months, the Immigration Office will check, among other factors, your travels outside Poland (if one trip was longer than 6 months, the uninterrupted stay is considered disrupted). The inspector can also invite you for an interview or order the community interview to check the truthfulness of the information you provided in your application.
The profits that the long-term European Union resident permit guarantees include, in addition to the indefinite right to reside in Poland, the unlimited right to work in Polish territory, access to the social system, the possibility to receive temporary residence in another EU country easier and many others not mentioned in this article. Moreover, holding this permit allows you to apply for recognition as a Polish citizen after two years.
